"Many students do not enjoy writing or feel they are not good writers, and they do not see the purpose of improving their writing skills. My challenge was to create a task that requires the same steps and outcome as a response to literature (RTL), is more engaging and authentic than responding to an essential question, and doesn't "feel "like a writing assignment, but still increases students’ understandings of how to write a strong RTL. In this revised task my students were engaged, they were able to see how writing skills can be applied to other scenarios, and the lightbulb went on for several students!
